Heart of Iowa Wine Trail to Host the 5th Annual Tropical Wine Festival

Des Moines, IA December 18, 2012 The Heart of Iowa Wine Trail announces an evening getaway for winter-weary, wine-loving central Iowans.  The wine trail is hosting the 5th Annual Tropical Wine Festival at the Scottish Rite Consistory at 519 Park St. in Des Moines on Friday evening, February 1, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This one-year-only relocation of the event was necessitated by the renovation of the Des Moines Botanical Center.

The Tropical Wine Festival will offer guests the opportunity to leave behind a cold Iowa winter and escape to the lush surroundings of the Botanical Center where they may sample some of the best Iowa-crafted wines from the fifteen central Iowa wineries that comprise the Heart of Iowa Wine Trail. Hors d'ouevres will be prepared and served by approximately 15 of central Iowa's best known restaurants (ElChisme, Splash, Gino's, Luna, etc,) and specialty food providers (Frisian Farms cheese, Maytag Blue Cheese, etc). Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite tropical shirt and enjoy prize drawings and other fun activities throughout the evening. Wines served at the event will also be offered for sale on site by the wineries.

Iowa Pork Producers and Iowa Restaurant Association
This will be the second year that The Iowa Pork Producers will be supporting this event. New this year will be the Iowa Restaurant Association and their Dine Iowa program. These two organizations are providing invaluable support and their participation allows the event to offer the finest in food for attendees to sample.

Tickets for the event are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Tickets may be purchased on-line by visiting www.heartofiowawinetrail.com/tropicalwinefestival.html or from any Heart of Iowa Wine Trail Winery. All those attending the Tropical Wine Festival will receive a commemorative wine glass.

For guests wishing to extend the activity into their own overnight getaway, the wine trail has named the Renaissance Savery Hotel at 401 Locust Street in Des Moines, Iowa as the preferred partner hotel and has arranged for discounted hotel accommodations for event guests staying at that facility. Rooms for the 2013 event are in very short supply so those wishing to stay at the Savery should get their reservations made as early as possible. Guests wishing to take advantage of this special hotel offer should contact the hotel directly at (515) 244-2151 and make their own reservations. When making reservations, guests should request the Heart of Iowa Wine Trail event room rate.
